The most common sign that you already have gingivitis is gums that bleed even with gentle brushing. Gingivitis is an inflammation which affects the tissues around the teeth and the gums that support them. Oftentimes, the reason why gingivitis occurs is improper hygiene practices. When the teeth are not properly cleaned and not well taken cared of, symptoms of the disease are experienced in time.
The symptoms of this mild gum problem include bleeding of the gums, foul or bad odor of the breath, and reddish, tender, and swollen gums. Sometimes, pain will accompany this gum issue but not for all cases. If this is not treated as soon as possible, the disease can develop into a more severe dental problem. Serious cases of this disease will lead to the deterioration and damage of the bones and ligaments supporting the teeth and loss of teeth may ensue.
If the teeth is not cleaned, brushed, or flossed regularly, there is a big chance for you to contract the disease. Brushing and flossing are two important practices that can remove the thin layer of bacteria called plaque forming on the teeth surface and below the gum lines. A visit to your dentist as soon as possible is a must especially when you notice symptoms of the disease. There are things that you can do to prevent or get rid of gingivitis right at home.
1. If you already have the disease, gingivitis cure involves the use of herbal mouthwash and toothpaste twice a day.
2. Another easy-to-prepare homemade remedy is saline solution out of a glass of warm water with a pinch of salt. The mouth is rinsed twice daily preferably in the morning and evening to increase blood flow and provide relief to the swollen gums.
3. Utilize mouthwashes containing sage oil, menthol, peppermint oil, and chamomile tincture. The regular toothpaste with peppermint and sage oil as an added ingredient is also effective as gingivitis treatment.
4. Another natural method to soothe bleeding gums is rubbing it with coconut oil ans sesame, or drinking diluted lemon juice. For relief of the bleeding and receding of the gums, you can also eat raw pears, melons, and apples.
5. Prepare a mixture of water and baking soda and dab it into the affected area to heal the swelling gums and neutralize the acidity of bacteria present in the mouth.
6. Choose from any of the selected oil from sunflower, sesame, and canola oil; and combine one ounce of any of this oil with drops of six myrrh oil, ten of tea tree oil, one of peppermint oil, and three of lemon oil. All of these oils are mixed well and massage into your gums after brushing your teeth. This oil mixture can also be used as a mouthwash after being massaged into your gums. Be careful not to swallow.
7. Use toothpaste that contains chamomile or prepare strong chamomile tea. It is helpful to drink chamomile in tea form, drink a cup in between meals or use it as a mouthwash. Chamomile can reduce inflammation and bacteria caused by gingivitis.
